Professor David Currow is an internationally recognised expert in cancer, and supportive and palliative care research, and in improving the delivery of supportive care in cancer. In his current role at the University of Technology Sydney, Professor Currow leads a busy national and international research program which includes phase II, III and IV clinical trials, and population-based studies. Professor Currow is the Chief Investigator for the Palliative Care Clinical Studies Collaborative (PaCCSC), now the largest global palliative care clinical trials group influencing practice and policy on an international scale. He has led this for 12 years since its inception randomising more than 2200 participants across 23 sites to adequately powered and rigorously designed investigator-initiated symptom control studies. He has published more than 600 peer-reviewed articles, editorials, chapters and books. Professor Currow is also the Chief Cancer Officer and Chief Executive Officer of the Cancer Institute NSW, former president of Palliative Care Australia and the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia, and a co-founder of the Australian Palliative Care Outcomes Collaborative, the world’s largest point-of-care quality improvement program in palliative care.
